NASA astronaut Jonny Kim has concluded his service with the space agency after nearly a decade, to rejoin the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander. Kim, who was selected as an astronaut in 2017, is known for his exceptional background, having previously served as a Navy SEAL and an emergency physician.

During his tenure at NASA, Kim completed an eight-month scientific expedition aboard the International Space Station (ISS). His mission to the ISS began in April 2025, when he launched aboard the Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft. On the station, he participated in various scientific investigations and maintenance operations, contributing to the space exploration program.

Kim's departure highlights the flexibility and commitment of astronauts to both their military and scientific careers.
