A new study introduces a nonlinear energy sink (NES) based on a vibro-impact spring-pendulum, designed to efficiently absorb unwanted vibrations in mechanical systems. This device leverages the combination of impact oscillations and the nonlinear response of a spring to unidirectionally transfer energy from the primary system to an auxiliary absorber, thereby achieving effective damping. The novelty lies in the integration of these two mechanisms, which have traditionally been studied separately, to optimize energy dissipation across a broad range of frequencies and amplitudes.
