Researchers have identified a new class of materials, intrinsic ferroelastic altermagnets, which exhibit a unique combination of magnetic, electronic, and mechanical properties. These materials, theoretically predicted in NiAs-type monolayers, show anomalous Hall conductivity, magnetoresistance, and elastoresistance. The key lies in their non-collinear magnetic ordering and its coupling with lattice strain, opening avenues for the development of multifunctional devices.
