NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has discovered anomalous behavior in the supernova remnants of the Messier 83 (M83) galaxy. Contrary to the expectation of gradual fading, several of these remnants show significant changes in their X-ray brightness. This finding challenges the conventional understanding of the evolution of stellar explosion remnants, which are typically characterized by a slow and predictable decrease in their emission as the hot gas expands and cools.
